1970-74 E-BODY 4 SPEED PEDALS. HOW DO YOU TELL?
« on: August 01, 2012 - 09:46:02 AM »
hey guys; what are the distinguishing features of E-body 4 speed pedals? are 70 different from 71-74 and are 70-74 interchangeable for all E-body? i was also told that 71-74 B-body pedals look the same. is this true?

here is a link to an ebay auction. the seller told me these are from a 70 cuda. besides the shape of the pedal pad and the curvature of the pedal arms, what telltale signs identify E-body pedals?  thanks, dave

'72-'74 pedals are more square, while '70-'71 pedals are more trapezoid in shape.  I also think something is a bit diff. in the cage like a hole in one or the other; can't recall.  But they will interchange; just won't be correct if the wrong year is in your car.

E-bodies, you have to look at the kink in the brake pedal as well as the shape of the cage.

The B body pedals are larger.   That's what I used.  They were cheaper.  They work fine.  I like the larger pedal and no one knows (except you now of course).
I may be schizophrenic,
but at least I have each other

thank you so much for clearing that up. i guess i lucked out this weekend then. i found a set of pedals just like the first pic you posted of 70-71 for $50.00.

the clutch spring and the rod that holds it in the cage were missing. do you have a line on those two pieces. the hole for the rod looks egged out a bit. how is this rod held in place.

thanks, dave

i noticed that the hole in the bracket for the clutch spring rod in this pic from brewer's is also egg shaped,so it sounds like nothing is wrong with my bracket.

What is that strap that goes through the housing, and over the the clutch by the spring.

I believe that strap is there just to hold the pedal in position. Without the clutch to resist it's movement, once it goes a little over centre, it will snap down quite hard.

Lol yeah.. But I did catch the while assembly on my foot(which is still healing from stitches and broken toes) I got to say I love driving a manual, but have no clue about these crazy and dangerous manual tranny parts. I have never worked on one. And now am doing a whole auto to manual swap.

While bolting up the clutch rod a freind was adusting helping , the back of my hand was the stopper for the springed pedal, just tore a little skin not that bad. A finger tip would have hurt like a sumbitty!!
