1970 Cuda Slap Stick Shifter
« on: July 28, 2012 - 09:41:40 PM »
Hello, I have a 1970 Cuda Slap Stick Shifter that I need assistance with. This is the shifter that had a round knob and black button at the top (not the handle). Here is my problem:

Inside the shifter, there is a threaded rod that the black button screws on to. The rod is threaded on one end and when you press down on the black button, the rod goes down and moves the ratchet mechanism. This rod has fallen out of the shifter. If I look closely at the rod, there is a small perpendicular hole that has been drilled about 2 thirds down with a small press pin in it. I think this small press pin had something attached to it that kept the rod in the shifter and also helped in activating the ratchet mechanism.

Where can I purchase a complete replacement slap stick shifter? Preferably  with a new wood grain knob, spring and black button. I realize that I really just need the threaded rod but I don't think I can just purchase that rod. I would also really like to know what was attached to that threaded rod that kept it in the shifter (I.E. what went in that small perpendicular hole located about 2 thirds down the rod)

Please assist?
Thank you!

The 70 is a one year only slap stick style, no reproductions but they come up all the time on ebay.  The wood knob is repo'ed and available at your favorite restoration parts supplier.

Make shure with them it's a "Slap stick'' unit. They don' t mention anything about this unit being a Slap stick. Maybe it is, but doesn't hurt to ask.

I haven't seen or heard of these being reproduced.  If you get one, please post a review.

I called PG Classic this morning and the representative I spoke with, did not know if it was a slap stick. She said she would call back. We shall see.....

I just called them back (same person I spoke with earlier), she said that they do not know if it is a slap stick and wont know until tomorrow. I think she has no intention of finding out but I will give her the benefit of doubt. If I do not hear back from them tomorrow, I will call back. Sounds kinda sketchy.  She also said that they are the only people who provide this replacement and that there is a 30 day return policy. They will not refund your money but will provide a credit and will not pay for shipping.  :clueless:
