VIN oddity...
« on: October 13, 2012 - 03:47:17 PM »
I was invited to a friends shop today to look at a 70 'Cuda Convertible and noticed something really odd. The car which has been in the same family for over 20 years, had a discrepancy with regards to the VIN. The dash vin decoded correctly that it was a convertible with a 340 in it, but the door sticker read that is was a hard top. So at first I thought, hmmm, replaced the door at some point. Then I noticed the sequence number was correct and matched the dash vin.

So, then question is.... WTF?

I have seen this a few times.
I've seen different numbers stamped on the body also. One matched the other did not.
Somewhere on here,  www.hamtramck-historical.com/foundByYearPlant70.shtml  ,  there are pictures of this sort of thing.

Not too terribly uncommon.
