742 swap for 489 3rd member

I am going to swap my existing 742 third member for a 489. What other piece(s) will I need to change? Will my existing axles work ok?

To the best of my knowledge, nothing and yes!! (New gasket for the carrier though!) However, I don't remember off hand if the yoke sizes are the same between the 742 and the 489... I know the 741 is the small yoke and the 489 is the large yoke... but the 742...?

Someone tell me to shut up here if I'm completely off track!

you will need a gasket , the axles are the same & will work fine , the difference if any will be the yolk size for the U joint , there are 2 sizes , the 7260[2 1/8" inside the ears] & 7290 [2 5/8"] the 741 used the 7260 U joint , the 742 & 489 can have either size yolk
