Leaf Spring Help on a Cuda
« on: February 19, 2005 - 06:11:10 PM »
Hopefully someone out there can help me out with this problem. I just Installed Subframe Connectors (Comp. Eng, weld-in) on my 73 Cuda. The problem that I am having is where the front of the leaf springs connect to the subframe connector, the stock bolt is too fat and too short to use in the hole provided by the new subframe connector, meaning that I need a longer, thinner bolt? The next problem is that with the bushing in the front of the leaf spring, the old bushing is going to allow the front of the leaf spring to slide side to side in its spot. I'm guessing I need a new bushing that is wider and has a special knot in the middle to not allow the front of the leaf spring to slide side to side? The only two things I can think of is that ethier jegs sent me the wrong type of subframe connectors (like for a chevy or ford) or I need to switch out to Super Stock Springs? Do the Super Stock springs require a longer, thinner bolt?  Hopefully this story makes alittle since.

Thanks for the Advice, Phoenix.

 Welcome
the leaf spring shouldl not connect toi the subframe connector , it should connect to the frame beside the leaf instead , the spring should remain mounted in the front spring hangar

I guess they sent me the wrong ones then, Because these go into the subframe and made it to where the stock front spring hangers are cut out. Looks like fab. time. Thanks for the info.

The weld in conecters allow the leafs to be relocated in board for use with wider rims/tires. I just drilled out the holes to accept a larger diameter bolt and bought one at Ace hardware. I also had a custom front spring bushing made for it. On the rear you going to have to use MP shackes and modify the frame mount to get the spring even. good luck   o1
