    Who can you trust ?

    New member looking for 70-72 driver Cuda, any combo. I know, this isn't the place for that but its what everyone here wants also, sooooooo

    What I really need to know is....
    1. Of all the "classic car" type dealerships, is there any one that stands out as not trusting them, especially in the mid-west ? (pm me if needed)
    2. Cars-on-line offers for about $300 someone to check out a car for you. Is it legit ?
    3. 5-speed Cudas !?!?!?

    I've looked at so damn many websites that I go to bed dreaming about a green 4-speed hemi Cuda and not my wife anymore. But then again, I'm 59 and been married for a few years. :D

    What part of the midwest are you in?  Usually, if you come across a car not near you, one of the members nearby will go see if for you, we do it for the love, and the cars.  and if a cuda has a 5spd, its definitely not stock.

    Question#2.  Yes the Cars online inspection service is legit.  I used it back in 2006.  Well worth it.  Look at the sample reports.  Im in WA state and wanted an inspection for a 70 Challenger in Georgia.  I made the owner of the car aware of the inspection and an inspector made an appt to examine the car.  The inspector was allowed to drive it.  Looked at each panel for flaws and took photos of the flaws.  Even found qtr panel repair where 2 pieces of sheetmetal had overlapping seam (could only be seen from the trunk area).  I received the report within 2 days from the inspection.  My inspection report looks just like the sample reports on the website.  Well worth it.

    Confirm what tman said. I used it last year for a 73 Challenger Rallye in Maryland. I am in California. Report and inspection was professionally done, details with lots of pictures that illustrated the important aspects of the car. Money well spent if the car is far away and if you don't have all the know how. If you are looking for a HEMI Cuda, that is totally at a different level. I would not just rely on one inspection. You should hire pepole that specialize on rare classic and go see it youself and perhaps with a member from CC checking all paperworks and records. Good luck with your search.

    #1 RULE-trust no one!Do your research on what to look for and either check it out yourself or get have someone look at it for you.

    Dealerships are In it for the $$$ so most of the time you are most likely going to pay more then the valued price and not get a true full report on the car (why would they want to tell you anything bad?) If you want a car like this I would recommend looking around locally and for cars owned by private owners, but that's just my opinion on what I would do.

    I bought my car off a member on here and felt a lot more comfortable getting it this time around compared to the last car I bought from some random guy. The random guy was nice but didn't tell me all the problems I was going to run into after taking it home. Problems happen immediately after buying.

    My latest car I just purchase is a different story, the seller gave me info and let me know what the problems were, and since he is a member on here I trusted him more than someone that isn't.

    Not the midwest but about a year and a half ago a dealership here on the east coast had a 73 Challenger 318 auto for 43k.  The car was very nice but no 43k car.  The comment above about in it for the money is 100% legit.  They ended up selling that car too so some junior Marine in his first steps as an adult is in deep on a car now.  I have found all of my best deals have been from buying from owners.  I have a lot of friends in the midwest and have them scout out deals for me.

    I bought my Cuda from someone on this site.  Was great because there was a history of what was done to the car.  I would also get involved with a local Mopar club if there are any... usually make good connections there with people who know what's going on locally.

    Keep trolling the cars for sale section here...  the guys are always looking for something and posting it...  members will take a look at the car for you too.

    Don't know of any dealers in particular but as mentioned they are in it to make money and sell the car.  Who knows if they are "experts" in what they sell.  They just sell it to make a profit.  Each dealer will have to be scrutinized down to the level of the individual salesperson.  Like Mass General Hospital is a great hospital but you might get a bad doctor.  It's always a good idea to check out the car yourself with a buddy who knows a little about that particular type of car.  Look for the normal 40+ year old car stuff and then check out the deeper stuff like VIN numbers, matching number stuff, options, etc...if that matter to you. 

    When I bought my car, I had no knowledge of Challengers and didn't check it out thoroughly.  Thank God the car was what it appeared to be and actually it was more than what I expected when I found out how original the car was after finding out more info about the car once I explored it after buying it.  I had no idea there were Rally cars and what options were available for that year, etc.
