Pitman arm nut
« on: July 26, 2012 - 10:44:36 PM »
Alright, I've been to Ace hardware, home depot, and autozone.  Where do I get the big ass nut that connects the pitman arm to the steering box?  Who sales big ass nuts?

I'm assuming you have the big sector shaft as you have a 73  Cuda?  Where are you at? I'm sure firm feel, steer and gear or any other rebuilder will have one? I just got a new steering box from firm feel and they supplied a new nut and lock washer.

When I measure the thread shaft I get almost 7/8" but the sector shaft splines at the top measure 1 1/4"
If you can't find one locally I'll mail you one, do you need the lock washer too? I'm in Canada and I assume your not so mailing you mine will take some time?  AnyRWD Mopars in your local wrecking yard?
Paying $35 for nut is crazy!

No doubt.  Yeah I need lockwasher too.  Send me a paypal email and I'll shoot you shipping plus whatever reasonable amount.

We've got wrecking yards, but they are picked clean (because I'm fairly close to Braselton, GA--Y1 headquarters).

I would only use these guys as a last resort.  :2cents: From shipping charges to customer service, just can't understand how they stay in business.

Man, you guys are awesome!  I've come here without having any mechanical background and having purchased what was one of my two dream cars growing up, and scared ****less of working on it and breaking stuff with my inexperience.

8 months later, I'm rebuilding a steering column and replacing a power steering box and pitman arm!  I've blasted and repainted a ton of parts in my car, slaughtered several electrical gremlins, done a complete audio install which included fabricating an alternator bracket for the new alternator, and fixed several leaks.  Before owning this car my mechanical toolset consisted of an adjustable crescent wrench.  Now it includes air tools, a sandblasting cabinet, various pullers, and ratcheting adjustable angle crescent wrench sets.

This all with a point of pride with me, and the car is now worth more to me than it ever was as a teenage wet dream.

I can honestly say that the generosity that you guys have exhibited in sharing where to locate parts, further information on how to fix things, advice on how best to fix/restore parts, and outright shipping free parts (internationally even) so that I can get behind the wheel again is awesome!

:iagree: Roger that with what Jason said. This forum is unlike any other. For the most part folks here treat other Mopar enthusiasts like family. I've had people give me parts for free & I've done the same. What goes around comes around. If you get the time, go to the "classics" section and read the "(not secret anymore) The Cudaguy" thread. Folks here collected funds and parts and restored (secretly) a Barracuda for Don while he was deployed in Afganistan/Iraq. That story embodies what CC.com is all about!! :woo: And one day maybe Don will have a fast car!  :poopoke:
