IMHO dissention is nuts this car looks awsome pretty bad arsed to me, wait till you see it with flat black hood, fog lights and a hockey stick it will be awsome especially a supercharged 6.2 hemi. Retro isn,t  bad  but if they go new design i don't think this looks bad at all. Grill area could use a little bit more work but the side shape is pretty sleek.

actually it is a cool looking car, but it shares nothing with the Cuda..

Take the evolution of the Camaro.. I know thats a bad word here.. but hear me out
The 5 or 6 generations of it, all look like they were natural progressions of the ones before, even to the newest almost looking like its come full circle..

the Cuda has been out of production for some 4 decades.. perhaps the 78-83 Challenger was the missing link between the Real Cuda, and the new concept

thats why I say "choose another name when you deviate from the original too much"

The new Charger should be called a "Fury" since they were sold as a 4 door and as a wagon..
Instead of calling them the Fury Wagon, they made up a new name "Magnum" and THAT is cool..

Call that purple thing the Eclipse, Spider, Cobra, Vengeance, Rat Salad.. what ever... just dont call it a Barracuda

Well if you look at it , it has a few retro features, added to the design.... tailpanel looks kinda 68-69 cuda, She's got some hips like a cuda, she has duel exhaust, the window area looks like 70 to 74 shape, the chin has built in lower valence cavity, I like it and it looks like it will be a wide bodied speed demon.

that thing is horrible!! Chrysler LOVES crapping on its classic and famous name plates!
Just a few recent name plates they have ruined:
The 4 Door Charger.. WTF!?! (yeah I am still ticked about it)
TRUCKS with SUPERBEE stripes.. Jesus!
4 Door Daytonas and Superbees
That mess they made out of the Road Runner concept turd a couple years ago..
The Dart.. again WTF? (secretly a neon with gay grill) although at least the Dart was sold as a 4 door!
The Demon (concept).. stupid looking douche car
The Duster.. they tried to make it an SUV!!!! A "cross over" SUV at that, even MORE lame!!

for crying out loud What is wrong with the people at Chrysler??? Dont they have pictures of the COOL stuff they USE TO build laying around there somewhere?

And now the Barracuda name is about to be smeared all over this family friendly redo of the 80s Wraith looking thing.. WTFingF?!?
Our tax dollars bailed these people out so they could gay up the cool old cars?
As if the 1986 Charger 2.2 wasnt stupid enough back then!!

The Challenger is SITTING THERE!! Do what you did in the 70s, MAKE A REAL BARRACUDA!!
MAKE UP OTHER NAMES FOR YOUR NEW CARS STOP RUINING THE OLD ONES!!!!

ok I am calm now

Well put!!!!!!!!!

I like it, but dont think it will be the next barracuda. Remember, its just someones concept. Not Chryslers.
Getting worked up over some nobodys idea isnt worth it.
Whatever it does look like, guys who own and like the originals are not really who they are after. They are not that interested in appealing mostly to a bunch of 50 plus year olds. That would be nice, but we would only be a little extra gravy to them. The other 90% of the market is much more important to actually making a profit on the car.
I would bet serious money that most of their eventual buyers will either never had ever heard of the original barracuda, or only recently learned a little about them because of advance commercials etc.
I like the idea of the name Fury. Actually sounds a lot cooler than Charger to me. A charger is a horse. Big woop. So is a mustang. Fury sounds mean, and unique. I hope they use it again soon. In fact, I think I prefer it to Barracuda, or even Cuda. Maybe some of you are right, and Chrysler should move on and stop using the old names. I dont think they actually help their marketing. Theyre OLD names. And before you say what about the mustang, or camaro, or vette? Those names help sales. Well maybe, but they have also been around more or less consistently. Everyone knows about them. The Barracuda hasnt been around for 40 years, and probably at least 75% of the car buying market has never heard of the car, and knows nothing about it.
If I spent tens of millions developing a really nice new car, I would think hard before using an old name. Try using your imaginations and come up with something really cool. My Grandmothers were named Elvira and Reba. Im sure they were nice names at one time, and I love them, but...no...those are not exactly popular names today. Sorry Granma.
And not that I dont like the old chargers. They had their time. The 68 was my favorite. Iconic lines. Those round taillights. But that car would never sell today. Way too big, and only 2 doors.

Just my opinions. Not here to pi$$ anyone off.

Glad to see I wasnt totally crazy sounding in my post LOL!

An all new Fury would be awesome, even tho if it followed my rant up there^ it should look more like a Crown Victoria or Caprice cop car, lol or the charger of today

Anyone remember this abomination or the Charger?

:droolingbounce: <--- I dont know what the hell this is about, but I wanted to use it

Just found this:

The 2012 North American International Auto Show has barely opened to the international press, and already the hottest rumor on the show floor is that Chrysler/Fiat is working on a replacement for the Dodge Challenger. It will be called Barracuda (though probably not Plymouth) and could be ready in time to launch for the original’s 50th anniversary, which would be a couple of months before the Ford Mustang’s 50th anniversary in April 2014 and the launch of that new car. Two unimpeachable — though not inside — sources have told me about the Barracuda. The Dodge Challenger is the most literal interpretation of its ancestor. Because it uses the DodgeCharger/Chrysler 300 platform, it has the high front cowl of those two large sedans, and so its overall length is considerably longer than the 1970-74 Challenger, which already was the biggest car in its class. That Challenger shared its platform with the 1970-74 Barracuda, but with a stretched wheelbase.
The ’74 Challenger was followed by a Mitsubishi-sourced coupe because it needed to be morefuelefficient to get through mid-decade gas prices. There is no way to follow up the current Challenger without either changing everything but the sheetmetal, or fully redesigning it to make it look nothing like the ’70-’74/’08-current model. If Chrysler is going to redesign it, why not make it a radical departure?
A 2014 Barracuda would be much shorter, lighter and smaller overall than the current car, something we’re hoping to see from the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. It would not use the newCharger/300′s LY platform, but would be on a shorter rear-wheel-drive platform, probably something closer to the Hyundai Genesis coupe. :puke:
What makes this scenario economically plausible is that such a platform also would serve Alfa Romeo well, with a new moderately priced RWD platform for a sports car and sports coupe. The question is whether the platform would package a V-8 for the Barracuda as well as a small, high-output and probably breathed-on turbo four for Alfa.
The Dodge Challenger launched in the 2008 model year, which means a five year cycle would end with MY13. A new Barracuda would launch in the 2014 model year. Ford plans to unveil an all-new Mustang in Spring of 2014 as a 2015 model. The original Mustang made its debut in April 1964 at the New York Auto Show as a ’65 model.
One source speculates that the new Barracuda would borrow a number of cues from the original, fastback Valiant model, all the way through the 1970-74 model, when the Barracuda converged with the Challenger and no longer used the Valiant platform. Will the new car be a fastback, like the 1964-66 model, or a notchback, like the ’70-’74, or both, like the ’67-’69?
We’d bet on the notchback, at least, because it would make it easy for Chrysler to do a convertible as well, a better way to compete with Mustang and Chevy Camaro.
