Shifter adjustment - I need help.....
« on: September 11, 2012 - 07:06:22 AM »
I just had my transmission (727) rebuilt. I have the original shifter, the ball with a button on the center console.
Before the rebuilt, if I pulled the shifter all the way back to ''1'', and manually shifted through the gears, it would kind of ratchet or lock up to prevent going straight from 1st to drive. I think this ratcheting action may be what I've heard described as '' Slap Stick''.
It now does not lock up after I pull it manually into first and manually go to 2nd. It will go all the way back to drive without locking up in 2nd.
I think this might be because I screwed up the linkage adjustment and I'm no longer manually going back far enough to ''SET'' the shifter in the Slap Stick mode....
Any suggestion?
THANKS for your time!

sounds like you`re missing the spring that pulls up the locking mechanism on the shifter..?

The linkage adjustment is all under the car.  The Slap Stick mechanism is all contained on the shifter itself.  Something has gone wrong with the shifter.
