MP race springs
« on: September 12, 2012 - 03:22:39 PM »
Anyone use the Mopar Performance competition racing springs?? Are they a stock ride height or lifted, and do they sit level? Most racing springs sit cock-eyed until launch to compensate for twist.

I need to replace my springs anyways, so seeing what my best option would be.

And it also looks like I can't use those with the offset front hangers I already have installed.

Not sure why.

These are often refered to as the Super Stock spring sets. They are weight dependant to achieve the correct performance and yes, they have a very large arch to them and are offset biased so one side may sit higher on initial install. The last set I used raised my ride height 4"  over stock. They also will require new longer length shocks because of the extra arch and body seperation they create.

If you have the stock length spring offset hangers, no you can't use the SS springs. For that matter, you can't use SS springs with the stock location hangers either because the front segment in the comp springs is 2" shorter.

Best bet would be to talk to Espo about what you want for leaf count, mounting locations, and any desired lift or lack of lift you want to achieve.

Okay, so I guess I have SS springs already. 3600 lb. Offset hangers are also 2" longer than stock.

That explains why the car sits a almost 2" higher on the passenger side. Seems a little much though, and not really to my liking. I guess I could either move the front spring eye up a hole, or get a spacer block.

Whoever did the rear messed up also.  They rewelded the spring pads so the diff is up a few degrees and the pinion snubber is already touching the floor. Just sorta locked the rearend in there. :screwy:

Driverside stance is pretty good. fender sits just lower than the tire, but passenger has a good 1 1/2" of daylight.

Does this sound right for Mopar SS springs??

Typically yes, the passenger side will sit higher than the drivers side.  I think the last set I had was about an inch higher that way. You can offset this imbalance by turning the driver's side torsion bar up a bit until things level out.

Setting the housing with the pinion up is not a good thing. The SS packs do tend to create slightly different geometry than a stock spring pack, but usually you would want it nose down to accomodate for spring motion under accel. Could be the previous owner didn't know the relationship between transmission and pinion angles and offset it the wrong way. You'll probably want to fix that before you drop the hammer.
