 :working:HI guy's. have a 70 barracuda ign switch will not turn off all the way.auto with console shift.switch turns off engine,switch/key stops just before on the off position so you can't remove the key.car does start in park.any input.thank's.

Thankfully my car didn't have this, but is there a "sleeve" that you have to rotate to get the key out?

Yep! Reach down the column and grab ahold and turn to the right (clockwise) that will unlock the key and you can take it out.

Don't ask me how I know.....

That was it.  I got the key out after turning it counter clockwise. 18 years and I hadn't noticed it rotates.   

What's the purpose of this sleeve?  There is an allen key in it.  I tried to tighten it down but it doesn't move.  Is the sleeve supposed to flop around like that?

in 70 only there was a rod from the column to the trans so the key could not be removed until it was in Park [Auto] or reverse [4spd] , I have virtually never seen a 4 spd with the linkage in place , who wants to put it into reverse every single time? 71 up uses a a lever on the column with a spring which they still use today , I still have no clue why you have to push a button to remove the key
