Upgrading to Sure Grip
« on: September 17, 2012 - 09:30:00 PM »
How much work is it to upgrade an 8 3/4 reared with 323 gears to sure grip? My differential needs some work, so it would be nice to upgrade it, so I can have both wheels spinning, instead of just one.
Would the upgrade be something simple or complicated to do?

it is a simple upgrade but usually not a do it yourself project as the backlash Has to be measured before disassembling it then the ring gear swapped to the posi unit & the backlash & brg preload has to be reset .
I would recommend the Tru Trac unit from Dr diff in Montana

Since your differential needs some work, why not just change out your whole center section with one that has a posi unit? You can pick up a decent used center section for about 350-$500 bucks or get a completely refurbished unit for under 1k. It doesn't require any special tools other than a dial indicator to set the "float" on your axle shafts, which I always do by "feel" rather than the dial indicator.  :2thumbs: Check out www.doctordiff.com Cass is the owner/operator and bar none one of the most knowledgeable Mopar differential experts out there. Great guy & competitive prices!
