need an externally balanced flywheel for my 440
« on: June 26, 2012 - 10:27:36 AM »
I'm converting from auto to manual and I had the flexplate that had the cresent shape cut out- I'm assuming that means I had an cast crank and the flexplat was external balance - if anyone has one- I could use it

You either have an HP 440 with 6 pack rods or a cast crank 440.both are externally balanced and both have different wieght offsets from each other.  Buy a regular used or new neutrally balanced flywheel. Take that flexplate and flywheel to the balance shop and have them balance the flywheel to match the flexplate.  If you knew what you had, you could drill the flywheel for the correct offset weight using the diagram in the Mopar engine book. Do you have the funny offset balancer on the front?

Brewers sells the flywheel and has a bolt on kit for external I do believe. I did a members car conversion and bought a flywheel from them
