Jack mast proper finish
« on: December 05, 2012 - 09:26:35 PM »
A recent post showed how a member restored his tire jack mast and had it plated with zinc dichromate plating.   However, in reviewing old pics and looking at jacks in restored cars I don't see any others that have the zinc dichromate plating.  Were the OEM jack masts in fact plated with zinc dichromate plating or was that just a nice touch our member added to his car?

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

I think you are refering to me.  The original mast was zinc dichromate.  I think it's hard to see in the before picture because the flash bleaches it out.  If you subject zinc to muriadic acid, it will bubble and fiz until the zinc is gone.

Hollow tube masts were zinc dichromate.  T-style masts were NOT zinc dichromate.

Which style mast was correct for a '70 Cuda, hollow or T style?

The picture of the T-style jack is from Dave Walden's 70 Challenger.  I assume the Cuda jack would be the same style.  The T-style jack mast is just painted silver I believe.
