440 hesitates off idle..jus went up to a 31 nozzle and put pink pump on....can't figure out hesitation
I put a video on tube called mopar 440 hesitates off idle any ideas???
Mopar 440 hesitates off idle
what i did:
-set total timing to 36-38 degrees(2500 rpm) with distributor vac unhooked and blocked off
-set front and rear floats to a slow trickle
-set pump arm clearance to manufacturer specs at wide open throttle
-turn idle mix screws 1.5 turns out
-hook up vac guage with car in gear and set idle mix screws until the best vac is achieved
i started with 29 squirters and finished with 36's ,i had a slight hesitation from part throttle to wide open so i upped the main jets in front to 82's
this engine loves fuel and now i can melt the tires like a SOB!!
For back squirters just get someone to follow you and see if you get a puff of black smoke when you floor it,if so drop a size.....or take it to the track
my exhaust pipes are black a bit but my carb does not have a choke and i put around town alot, think i'm running 80 mains in rear and 34 squirters but i think i may drop a size
my car was doin the EXACT SAME same thing, then i talked to mopar guy and he said ignore the reccommended sizes for engine cubes.....BIG BLOCK MOPARS NEED FUEL!!!!
AND POWER VALVE FORMULA I WAS GIVEN IS,divide your best vac guage reading by 2 and minus 1.5........mine was 12divide by 2=6 6minus1.5= 4.5 power valve
this seems to work for me but i'm no pro!!!!
