SRT-4 caliber vs 09 cobalt SS
« on: November 07, 2010 - 04:03:32 PM »
So my buddy let me drive his lightly modified SRT caliber last night. Only mods are a CAI and 3 inch straight pipe exhaust off the turbo. We were cruising around last night and he had a gps hooked to the car. We were getting ready to see what i could run thru a quarter and an 09 ss cobalt pulls up at the stoplight next to us and starts reving his motor. My buddy looks at me and says "waste him". That cobalt never even had a chance. I ran108 thru a quarter. The only thing i dont like about the car is the torque-steer is HORRIBLE

A couple friends of mine had 3.0 V6's in thier 92 Daytona's.  Torque steer in those cars was really bad too.  I would imagine the STR engine would be even worse.  I've only ever seen a few STR Calibers.  I love the look of them.  I wonder how the Caliber would hold up against an IROC R/T Daytona or a Spirit R/T?

No doubt! Those SRT-4 engines are impressive. I had a 2004 SRT-4, when they were Neon based. I was putting down about 250 hp at the wheels, maybe a little more. Stage 1 chip, throttle body, exhaust, and a whole crap load of suspension mods. Fun little car, but yeah, the torque steer was insane. That SRT-4 would rip the wheel right out of your hands and go straight if you maxed out the boost mid corner. Even in a straight line the wheel would "walk" back and forth as the limited slip front would alternate back and forth between giving more power to one wheel or the other as they fought for traction.  :burnout:

Street racing is bad!  :aarg:

I currently own an SRT-4 Caliber and Neon.  I've also owned a GLHS Omni.  Test drove and passed on the Iroc R/T and Spirit R/T back in the day (neither was as fun as the GLHS even though they had 49 more HP). Showroom stock the modern 2.4L Mopars are slightly quicker than the 2.2L Mopars of the late 80's and early 90's.  With a very easy and inexpensive CPU swap, they are even quicker.  Handling-wise the GLHS could hold it's own against the modern cars.  The Daytona and Spirit not so much.

If the Cobalt SS was the supercharged one, then limited in HP.

If it was the newer turbo'd, I hear a chip can really get that sucker >300hp.

SRT motor has a lot of potential.  Need an LSD to help w/the torque steer.
