WHY?????
« on: November 21, 2012 - 06:19:06 AM »
Why do previous owners remove the fender tag? Is there anyway to procure a replacement? The person I got the car from years ago said the original owner refused to part with the build sheet and fender tag. I contacted the original owners family (deceased) and they said if they ran across it they would call. They also brought up a question, "What's it worth to you?" What is it worth???? It's a 73 Cuda 340 with few options I can see, no A/c etc...

during a new paint job?

Yes, but for a correct fender tag only with an original broadcast sheet

I agree. The tag was probably removed years ago during a repaint or accident repairs and they never bothered to replace it. But if the prior owner really did keep it on purpose I would wonder why.
If your car is original"ish" they might be worth a couple hundred dollars, or at least thats what I might consider paying if they were greedy about it, and maybe it would motivate them to find it. If your car isnt original or you dont ever intend to return it to more or less original condition then it might not be worth much. Still, they are nice to have.
Now, if it were a real v-code or AAR or very rare car it could add much much more value than that.

Seems people who know no better tend to remove the tags when they "clean up" the engine bay.

That stupid square tag gets caught on all kinds of stuff when your leaning over into the engine bay.

I agree with a couple hundred bucks for the tag.
I'm a tag nut though, so I would probably get suckered into something like 4-450.
Especially if it had that build sheet.

I pretty much won't buy an ebody without a fender tag.  Unless it's super cheap of course.

Go razz the hell out of those people.  I'd drop a hundred bucks and ask them to consider that as a down payment for when they look for the thing and find it.
Motivation ya know.

I totally agree.... most people have (Or knows somebody who have) a camera on their phone these days, so it should take them like 2 minutes.

What they might have, is some old pics of the car,....but to start paying money for it...
