Noob with (you guessed it) a few questions.
« on: December 11, 2012 - 07:15:40 AM »
Hello, I'm Don. My Brother in law purchased a '72 Barracuda at an auction in KC last week, and although I do not own one, he has asked me to help him work on it with him. A beautiful car to be sure, he bought it to drive, and not put on a trailer. It has a 340, black with black interior. Very stark and badass to be sure. I wanted to start off here first and introduce myself, before I start perusing the threads, asking familiar questions. I'm in a small town close to KC, and the car is about 2 hours away. He has challenged me to help out with a new stereo install first off. The headunit in it currently has a short. The rear speakers do not work at all, and it looks like it is all aftermarket. Rear speakers are big, and are amped. If anyone has advice, I'd surely appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Welcome!

Got any pics of your bro's car?

There are many threads here about stereo systems.
That would probably be the best place to start.

Be careful!  Once you start working on your bro's mopar, your gonna get hooked with the mopar fever!

Welcome! Yep, start saving now. Your next for getting an old Mopar!
I installed a new stereo in my car too, but I never use it as I'd rather listen to the motor "singing"  :grinyes:

The stock wiring for the rear speakers runs from behind the driver's side kick panel,  into a channel that runs along the driver's side rocker, up behind the rear interior quarter panel and comes out in the trunk.  The harness for the dome light, brakes/reverse lights, fuel sender all runs down this same channel.  Maybe you got lucky and they used the existing channel.

Hey, thanks for the replies, I have been scouring the audio part of the forum, and it's helping. As far as pics are concerned, I'll see if he would be interested in a shoot or something. It is a pretty car. Thanks again!
