I know the electric pump should be back by the gas tank, where exactly did you mount your fuel pump and regulator?

My pump is mounted on the left rear frame rail alongside the diff, and the regulator is on the right front inner fender.  Just a quick tip, the regulator gauge is clocked so the 6 psi is straight up, making for a nice quick visual to see if the pressure is right.

I mounted the pump and filter just above the rear end ( behind the rear seat)


mounted the regulator on the engine

Don't give up on the booster pump idea quite yet. My Dad's 55 Desoto had one and the toggle switch was under the column. A couple of seconds and the carb was full. Once it started, off it went and the engine pump did the rest. To the best of my remembrance, I believe the pump was in-line and before the engine pump, but I'll see if my boys can confirm that. Cheaper and quieter as well.  :2cents:

I recently installed an Air-Tex pump ($54.00) in my 54 Dodge pickup.  It is by the tank and pushes fuel through the mechanical pump for start- up or as a back-up pump.  It is a diaphragm type and is quiet.  It installs easily and pumps at 6 PSI.  I have an on/off switch and only use it for start up or occasional vapor lock.  The new fuels are more volatile and cause problems in non fuel injected cars.
I have a Carter pump on my Challenger for the same reason but it is a rotary pump and is noisy.  I use it for start-up then shut it off.  It is mounted on the cross member near the differential and very close to the fuel tank pick-up tube.  I put a heat shield between the pump and the exhaust pipe and have a solenoid close to the pump for a better voltage feed.

My line goes through a 7PSI in-line thumper type pump from Carter, pushes to the engine mechanical then to the filter then comes to a BG fuel log that supplies both carb bowls. That is a common rail which has 3/8" pressure line in one end and the 1/4" fuel return line at the other end.  In the first fitting for the return line I tapped a pop rivet in as a restrictor and took the center nail out. The return line only circulates a little gas back otherwise the pressure drop at the carb bowls is too much. Runs about 5PSI.

The Mallory is real quiet. Cannot even hear it even at idle. I do not have a engine driven pump though so cannot say if the mechanical can pull through an electrical pump

Did you hook it up interlocked to the oil pressure or something? Just wondering about a front end accident where the fuel line gets damaged and the pump keeps pushing out fuel.  :dunno:

I ran mine up the firewall and to the back of the engine. I have a hidden switch I can turn off the pump with.
