Autism Speaks - Help me Raise Awarenes - Update
« on: February 27, 2013 - 08:14:42 PM »
Hi Folks,

I have not shared this publically on this board, but my son Michael, who just turned 6, was diagnosed with Autism last year. This was quite a blow to our family. The last 12 months have been challenging, to say the least, as we navigate the challenges of our new world.

This year our family has decided to enter a team, Michael and His Mopar Puzzlers, in the Walk Now For Autism Speaks Canada event in Waterloo Wellington.

Outside of my family, like many of you, I have a passion for cars. We try to get out as a family as often as we can in our Cuda. Michael and his big sister Lillie always get a kick out of going for a spin and they always want to go faster.

We have tried to combine my passion for cars, the passion for our family and our new found advocacy in our team name.

Please donate to any member of our team and help us raise awareness for all those affected by autism.

The following is a link to my donation page.

http://events.autismspeaks.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.participant&participantID=14095

Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disorder in the world. With 1 out of every 88 children being diagnosed with autism, now more than ever, we need answers. Children with autism grow up to be adults with autism and we need to find better ways of supporting our loved ones living with autism - no matter what age. Please consider making a gift as I walk to raise money for research, walk to raise awareness, walk to find the missing pieces of the autism puzzle.

Best regards and thank you for your support.

Jason, Ann-Marie, Lillie and Michael.

Thanks Jackie,

My son is high functioning and verbal, VERY VERY verbal at times.  :)  He is a good kid.  We certainly have some challenges to overcome, but my wife and I are confident that we will get there and my little dude will go on to live a long and fulfilling life.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but please please please do not donate.  I have read about everything you are going through and hope you are doing well.  The fact that you have even thought about donating, given all you are going through means so much and speaks to what a great person you are. We are all pullign for you.

Jason

Jason,  it is no problem.  I just had a killer grocery store trip. Total bill was $57.79. Saved $42.77 in coupons.  :bananasmi.  I can afford to donate a couple bucks. Plus, I really want to.  :2thumbs:

Jason, my daughters godfather buys her beads for her bracelet. And she saw the autism puzzle bead last week. And the one he got her broke. And she is gonna ask him to exchange it for the autism bead. Because so of the money goes to the charity.  :2thumbs:

Those are very nice.  That is great thanks!

Thanks, for the comments folks.

I have received a few anonymous donations, I hope those are from members here...if so thank you very much!

I also have exciting news to share.  In my best effort to bring the car culture to this event, I have convinced the event organizers to allow me to have my cuda on site as part of our team display. I plan to have it available for pictures and let any of the kids that want to sit in it for a pic etc.

I also want to try to obtain a number of Hot Wheels to hand out to any of the kids that are there.

I am also looking for a sponsor for team t-shirts or some classic style bowling shirts.  I think it would be cool to have something different and really stand out on the day of the event.  Something with a car culture feel to it!

So if you have any Hot Wheels in the package you are looking to get rid of, have any contacts at Mattel or any shirt companies and would like to help out, please let me know.

Thanks for all the support folks!

hi jason, I also have a autistic son.His name is gary and he is 22years old. Its been a very difficult life with him,but I still love him to the end .Never try not to understand his needs, patience is important.Go to your local chapters and get involved. My wife and I did for about 15years.When he was diagnoised with autism it was 1 in 10,000.You might want to check into the ASA (AUTISM SOCIETY OF AMERICA) the information is endless. One of our chapter goals is to build a group home for the kids.We are working with schools, doing mini grants for teachers. But meeting with other familys and knowing wants available was very benefical. frank :smokin: :dogpile:

Jason, I will check into the shirts. If not maybe someone could design them and you could get the iron transfers and print them from your printer ?  I will sent as many Hot Wheels as I can fit in the Priority box. Should be at least 50 or more.  :2thumbs:   Jackie
