Hydraulic Clutch

Has anyone used the hydramax hydraulic clutch kit? I am gathering parts right now to swap my car to a 4 speed. I just think this setup will be easier than a factory clutch linkage. This setup seems complete. I only am lacking this kit, a flywheel, clutch, and a hump! I'm starting to get excited.

Never used this kit but it looks like an S-10 master and a ram hyd bearing. I'm not a big fan of that style of bearing because if it leaks kiss your clutch disc good bye. If your set on a hyd setup I'd use an external slave that way if it leaks it can easily be swapped out without removing the tranny and clutch. Downside is it does take up some room to mount? Thinking header clearance issues?  :dunno:

I have used the slave that bolts on the front of the trans & pushes straight forward on the clutch without using a fork , never had a leak & they work great . I have not used that brand though

I don't have the Hydramax kit, but I do have a very similar setup supplied with my Keisler conversion.  If you don't mind the non original clutch master cylinder showing up in your engine bay its actually a good setup.  Mine was easy to install since I did it as a new engine/trans installation.  It took out the tedious guesswork and measuring to get the alignment of the Z bar correct.  I had about 3,500 miles on it so far and it worked really well.  No excessive pedal effort, although I didn't have a particularly aggressive clutch.  There is the worry that the slave cyl could leak inside the clutch housing but I remembered that a LOT of factory setups use this design (I had an old Dakota with over 100k on the original slave cyl)  Hope this helps.   :working:

Thanks guys! That helped a lot! I had read some really bad things about hydraulic clutch setups. I think this will be a ton easier than setting up the mechanical linkage.

One thing is for sure stay away from the Driven Man.  They have a setup.  I have replaced both the master and throw out and don't have 1000 miles on them.  Replaced the throw out at about 200 miles.  Have had quality issues with their clutches too.  Wouldn't reimburse me either.  It has been a real hassle.   :swear: :swear: :stomp: :stomp:

Unless they changed their supplier, Driven Man is selling the Hydramax system.
