72 barracuda wiring/lighting problem
« on: March 22, 2013 - 09:46:50 PM »
I am having trouble finding my problem with my 72 cuda. The side markers tail lights and fog lights will not come on the headlights work though. I've eliminated the headlight switch as the problem and am trying to figure out where to go next. I beilve something is going on with my driver side door jam switch and the wiring because the only way the dome light will shut off is with the yellow and yellow/black wires hooked up if I hook up the black like the diagram says the dome light stays on. The reason I'm telling this is because when testing my circuits on my headlight switch if just the 2 yellows are connected on my door jam I can jump my side markers etc off no problem and they work if I connect like black like the diagram says I get an arc when trying to jump my connection on the headlight switch. Something's not adding up. Any advice?

The other condition that causes the dome light to come on is when the dimmer is cranked all the way up.  The dimmers on these e bodies are a known failure point, so you might want to make sure your dimmer is working properly.  There is a member here Slotts (JS Restorations) who sells better than original switches with or without a core.

But will the dimmer switch cause the problem I'm having because with or without the dimmer switch hooked up I get the same no light symptom and arc when trying to jump the switch.
