Spline count
« on: January 09, 2013 - 07:42:47 PM »
So, as I learn more about the technical issues involved with adding a sure grip and changing gears in my 70 challenger with a 489 Case,  I have read that the spline count relative to my current gears isn't that critical...So if i find the gears i want but they are 10 spline (vs 30 that may be currently installed) I can simply change out the yoke and all will be fine......  Is that correct?

yes , the problem comes in where you leave the gears in the carrier & swap yolks removing pressure from the crush sleeve . Installing new gears with a new crush sleeve or better yet a spacer & shims & matching a yolk is no problem .

Thanks Chryco.......      I'm excited as after many hours of research and searching, I found a new set 3.23 gears for my 440 rebuild.....   I don't understanding why no one is making these any more......  I was lucky to find a set......

I have heard there is a company making 3.23 again but I have not confirmed that

Yeah...... I heard that someone may be making 3.23's for 489 cases next year.     Given gas prices, I would think there would be a market for these......  Especially since they haven't been made for so long.   I was lucky to find an NOS set......
