That's kinda weird, because when I pulled the tank on my 74, it WAS like a felt. It was about an 1/8" thick and dense. Kinda like it's owner.

If I run across my original pad I'll post a picture of it.  It was definitely NOT a thin tar paper like material.  It was a thicker foam.  The factory must have changed it at some point.

I had a sample of mine. May still have it. Not sure.

It's like a dimpled, corrugated 1/8" inch compressed pad that's been soaked in a brownish resin.
Similar to Tar but softer and remains flexible.

Oh man, I want a new tank for my cuda SOOOOOOO Bad!! that new tank looks awesome, yeah I know,,, its just a gas tank, but its a nice gas tank!!! Id like to get one already set up for EFI but so I can run it at carb presure for now until I get the EFI.

I might have to bring one back as checked luggage next time I'm over there.
