Grille and light bracket and front valance were easy. Just a bolt in. All the holes for the 71 grille and headlight brackets  and valance were already there and lined up perfectly. Had to drill one hole for the upper headlight bracket legs. I also  had to put about a 1/4" of shims under the headlight bracket legs. Drivers side was worse than passenger side. But was still an easy bolt in.
Taillight panel was not so easy. If I had to do it over again I would let the bodyshop remove it. But I was trying to save money. There are a lot of spot welds to drill out. I have a set of spot weld cutters and it was still not easy. Some of the spot welds were in hard to get to places. I end up cutting it out with a body saw to get at some of the spot welds on the sides. But I will be the first to admit that I am not a bodyman.

so, i have 72 fenders that i'm grafting in the thin side lights and gills, i have the quad headlight bracket, do i also need the bucket behind the bracket? or, is the existing bucket on my '72 stock fenders the same piece as a 71? if not, can i get away with modifying it?

72 is different from the 71, the 71's have two head light buckets.

Right I have the 4 light buckets, but I'm talking about the brackets behind them that's mounted to the fender.

Not sure if is the same. I bought 71 fenders. On the core support where the two legs on the headlight bracket attaches. One hole lined up and I had to drill the other.

Weird, the back plate looks the same on your 71 as it does on my 72.
