t/a hood pins
« on: February 10, 2013 - 07:13:14 PM »
ok guys, got my hood pins this week (thanks Mopardave!) and my hood doesnt have markings for the pins, so whats the best way to get an accurate installation?  thought about marking the tops of the hood pin studs and lowering the hood onto them, not sure tho, what do you guys think?

A 70 Challenger hood should have provisions for the pins underneath.

Mine is a 73 with a 70 grille, bought the good from a guy who had bought it for a 72 and never installed it, just went out and checked and there are no provisions for them.

Can you post a picture of the underside of your hood? Just wondering if it has the cut out shape like the picture of Mikes hood?  I'm sure you can make it work somehow.

Looks like you have the provision for the stud.  I would install the stud then lower the hood so that it makes litte indentations on the underside to see where you have to drill.  Or like you had mentioned mark the top of the studs and lower the hood.

Be careful because the hoods on these cars do not always com straight down with you close them so the marks might be off a little bit.

The hole is already there in the fender , so install the pin , put a gob of grease on the top of the pin and see where it hits?  Then drill the hole, smaller at first then measure on the top of the hood so they are equal for and aft as well as side to side.  Then when your happy make the hole as big as the scuff plate center hole, then install the scuff plate. You might need to put a pipe over the pin to "tweek it" to get everything symetrical. I did on my car.
