    Question About Bumpers

    I am going to order fibreglass bumpers for my '72, that are made so I will have to drill the mounting holes myself.  I'd like to order the '70 style bumpers, but should ask first if there is any difference in the length of the bumpers?  Width and mounting hole placement is not a concern, but length is.

    Also, is there really an estethics difference between the '70 and the '72 ?  Enough to order the '70 instead?

    Maybe a silly, newbie-esque question, but if ya don't ask, ya never know, right?

    The only difference between 70 and 72 are the 72 has little bumper slots. They are the same length, with the same mounting holes.

    Right,, I saw where some folks were making fiberglass versions of the rubber bumpers

    Looks real smooth

    I saw them at the spring fling in 2002 I think

    I was thinking that I either had to rechrome my exsisting bumpers, get new chrome ones, or, since the entire car is fibreglass, go with glass bumpers.

    Sounded like the logical choice.  Also, the car is green and black, and the bumpers come flat-black, so their even colour-coded for my application.

    And the price seems right, too!!

    so now the question is:  How much are front/rear used chrome Chally bumpers worth for resale?

    The condition of them is the biggest factor if you are going to sell them. How nice is the chrome? Any dents? Unfortunately, the 72 bumper doesn't bring the money the 70-71 does, just because of those bumper slots. I guess there are some real nit-pickers that want everything correct. Anyway, if they are in decent local show shape, I would think $100 or more each.

    That makes me wonder.  i've got a set of '71 cuda bumpers.  the Chrome is pitted, and there are a few little dingers, but they are just taking up space in my garage.  They are certainly repairable.  Wonder what they would be worth.

    On our '72 the rear has slots the front does not.  Is that "correct" or has the front been changed at some time?  BOTH have an annoying dent of course.  We would like to find straight ones to replace them with.  How much are the fiberglass ones???

    I think they're more expensive than the chromed one.  Most want a core with the purchase.

     :o  Reeeely, they want more for plastic than steel, PLUS want a steel one in return?  What do they do, "fix" and re-chrome my old one and sell it off too? 

    Someone mentioned "Bumper Boyz"..I have heard nothing but BAD things about them  :ack:

    There is another bumper place in the L.A. area that I'm told is pretty good.  They sell bumpers outright for one price and also for about $50  less if you have a core.  I can't recall their name but I will post it when I do.  ;)

    I have a friend who got bumpers for his '67 malibu from Bumper boyz.  The car never even saw the light of day before the chrome started flaking off.  They replaced them for free, but it was still a hassle having to remove them again and drag them to a car show.  I will probably get :spank: for saying this, but I got mine from Autobody Specialty ( http://www.autobodyspecialt.com/ )  They were the same price as Bumper Boyz, didn't make me ship my old ones back to them, and they werent on infinate back order like Year One and most other places.  And the best part is that they are flawless.  Nothing looks nicer than a nice shiny set of chrome bumpers in my opinion.

    Here is that other company.  I saw some of their stuff at a swap meet a couple weeks ago, looked good, but that is all I know.
