318 head bolts

Hi Guys ,Putting together a 318 for a friend had a question on the head bolts what do you use if any on the threads one book says anti seize the other non harding peramtex or just motor oil . Finally whats the torque for them one says 85 the other 95 thanks for any help.

I just used a little motor oil on mine.  85 sounds right.  I'd have to look at my Chiltons manual to be sure.

Motor oil to keep the threadfs from binding allow it to torque properly , do it in 4 steps 50 - 65 -80 -90
 I found 3 different specs - 85 for 318 , 95 for a 340 & 105 in later years 87 for example , I recall using 95 & would go to at least 90 lbs

My vote would be anti-seize, but anti-seize may be more valuable when you have
different materials bolting together, ie steel bolts going into an aluminum head.
(ie intake manifold bolts)
I also like anti-seize on the threads when bolting up lug nuts.

anti seize will work fine , just more expensive

I'd use oil, since thats what the torque specs are for.  If you use something else there are torque specs to get the same bolt stretch with its coefficient of friction.

Also, sealant is for them Chebby boys, since those head bolts go into the water jacket.

Definitely use engine oil or cam lube. Anti seize will give you a different torque value.  :2cents:
If I cant fix it, it's broke
