Can a 318 engine flywheel be used on a 440?
« on: June 01, 2012 - 09:50:50 PM »
According to a thread i read on mopar muscle forum, he stated that a 440 can use a 318 flywheel, but not a 360's flywheel. Can this be true, cause i dont know, and i need a flywheel for my 440, and i happen to still have my original 318.     :clueless:

It would have to be a steel crank 440.

I used my 318 flywheel on a 440 but only if you are using a 70+ aluminum bell housing.  As stated, steel crank must be used for speeders.  You can tell what you have by how wide the balancer is.

Update. I finally have my engine back after a year. It does have a 1972 steel crank in my 440. And i got my hands on an aluminum bell-housing.
So am i good to use the flywheel out of my 318? This will save me some $$, if i don't have to buy a new flywheel.

yes , it should be a 130 tooth flywheel & it will take a 10.95" clutch , I would use the B&B / Long pressure plate from McLeod with it for max grip
