Audio system cuts out
« on: December 18, 2013 - 11:29:27 AM »
I am having a problem with the sound system in my Cuda.  Whenever I try to turn up the volume the unit cuts out.  I suspect a voltage problem; like the stock alternator doesn't have enough output.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

If your running an AMP try a thicker gauge wire to Amp and to Ground of Amp. Some Amps call for 4 gauge wire. Check the specs.

Did you run a dedicated power feed to amp directly from battery?

It already has a heavy gauge wire that is wired to the battery.  I am using a yellow top Optima battery.

Check your grounds, make sure it is grounded to a clean metal surface. A poor ground will cause a voltage spike when you crank up the volume causing your sound to cut out.

Do you have an Amp?  If so, What type of speakers are connected to it and how do you have them wired?

Mine did the same thing found a bad speeker new out of the box (drawing to much power?) . Turn the balance and the front to rear fader crank it up and see if one of the chanels make it cut out.

Inverted polarity on one speaker can also cause a similar issue.

I think we need a little more info. My aftermarket amp sometimes kicks out when idling at a red light(alternator is turning too slow). Is your issue the same, or does it kick out while driving?

My system cuts out when I try to turn up the volume.  I also have one door speaker that quit working; I am going to check the wire terminals and make sure they aren't backwards.  I had it apart when I was insulating the door with some peal and seal.
