Understanding a wiring diagram.
« on: January 13, 2013 - 03:11:15 AM »
Can anyone help with decoding the numbers/letter designated for a wire in a wiring diagram?

For example, the fusible link notes "A1B-16DBL".

I know the DBL is the colour code (Dark Blue) as there is a colour legend on the page, but there no legend for the other digits.

Is the 16 is the wire gauge?

What does the A1B mean?

Couldn't find anything in the service manual, but it wouldn't have mattered. Electrics isn't my strong point.

Correct, 16 is the wire gauge.

A1B is basically the numbering scheme for the circuit so when you're going from page to page of the wiring diagram you can figure out where you left off.  Notice that the wire from the battery to the starter relay is A1A10R (10 gauge, Red).

I have always wondered about the prefix portion myself. Seems like there must be a rhyme&reason for the coding.
I think the first letter determines the type of circuit. Hopefully someone else knows and lets us in on the answer.
If I cant fix it, it's broke
