How to Remove Door Trim?
« on: March 24, 2013 - 12:40:10 PM »
70 Challenger, it's been a long time, but I seem to remember the chrome trim for the door just snapped on?

I need to remove it to replace my door glass, but it doesn't want to budge?

Is there a trick to getting these off?

Interesting, so I should be able to just pull these up?

Wondering if there's something to "release"?  Pulling pretty hard, and they don't want to move up?

Worried about bending them.

here` s what I think the clips look like.  Check the shape... looks obvious they won`t come off easy...  :clueless:

Not really meant to come off easily. :pullinghair:

It looks like you have the older style in-correct type on there anyways.

If you destroy them taking them off you could replace them with a correct set made by ToPCaT.

So is there a slot or something the tab is "locking" into?

Best I can tell, there's a channel, 1 of the fingers goes inside the channel (closest to outside of car), the other 2 fingers go on other side of the channel (towards inside of car)?

Really don't want to break these, already had to place an ad in the parts wanted section for other things that broke during this wonderful adventure.   :banghead:

On a 70 Challenger, the window strip has a little tang that slides in and down into a slot on the door.  Use a very thin putty knife to separate it a little from the door, and then work the strip up and away at the same time.  Here's what it looks like from inside.

Just to be contrary, if memory serves, you don't need to take the outer whisker mldgs off the R&I the glass. I know I didn't when I took the glass out of mine.  :2cents:

So you got three or four people to weigh in.  Did you get the strips off?

Not yet, put this on hold while I try to round up the broken parts that need to be replaced.

Thanks for the help

I'd like to know how you get these off too without scratching the paint. I've got new ones to put on but haven't experimented with removing the originals yet.
