rear bumper guard installation, '71 Challenger..
« on: March 30, 2013 - 01:46:47 PM »
Hey gang..
I found this on Jaime's MegaParts site. Anyone have any pictures show this installed on the body before the rear bumper is installed? I'm looking at my parts book and FSM. They aren't very helpful. Unfortunately, the FSM doesn't show where these brackets are mounted. I see where the bumper guards have two mounting points...

Sorry for the abundant questions, but there's a learning curve...

1. Picture of Mega's part
2. Where I "thought" the brackets should mount to.
3. Bumper guard to my friend's Chally
4. Picture from the web ( thanks ebodyproducts ) >> this I believe gave me a clue where to look, see below picture
5. Soooooo, is this where the guard bracket mounts to?

You B Body guys....boy-o-boy.. :smilielol:

The flat plate with the single hole goes inside the bumper to add support to where the bumper guard is bolted to the bumper.

The "L" shaped bracket with the three holes mounts to the lower threaded hole in you bumper guard and bolts to the frame rail with two bolts right at the end near the rear shackle.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

The L shaped bracket mounts with the long part of the L going through the rear shackle. If you are laying on your back, the bolts go straight up through the bracket.
In later years the longer part of the L got longer to compensate for the bumpers being move outwards.

Here is the drawing from the 74 parts manual, it is 13-68-12 is the L shaped bracket:
