Power vs. Manuel steering?
« on: June 21, 2005 - 04:15:12 PM »
Hey guys/ gals,

I have noticed that a lot of people are changing from power steering to manuel i.e. Firm Feel 20:1 gear ratio. What are the advantages of this modification. Engine bay space, handling, control?

Kyle.

Well... if it will help you get your headers on easier(big block), then I can definitely understand the switch.  :grinyes: :grinyes: :grinyes:

I changed from manual to power steering and I am glad I did. If you are going to use your car for mostly cruising than definitely power steering. The biggest difference with the power steering is how easy it is pulling in/out of parking spaces and cornering at low speeds. If you plan on using you car for racing, than go manual steering. The weight reductions and ease of maintanence are the biggest selling points for manual steering.

If you are changing over from power to manual... ya gotta change the middle shaft of the steering column, you need a new steering coupler and a new pitman arm.... :banghead: One of these days I'll have manual steering in my 'Cuda.... :gripe:

So the change is pretty much what I thought. It just seemed like there was something I was missing.

Thanks,
Kyle.
