Can you repair a window regulator?
« on: March 29, 2013 - 06:26:56 PM »
My window regulators when cranking the windows up stick. I will crank the window up and it will stop, then if I roll the handle back just a little I can crank it up some more. It will do this a few times until the window reaches the top.
I think it is just worn out and was wondering if there is a way to fix it?

Your drivers door window,  right?  The drivers side gets used a LOT more than any other window.  The gears are most likely wore out.  I've tore them about and replaced gears to make them work, but it might be easier to buy a new seat.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Doesn't sound like the gears are stripped. Have you tried cleaning & lubricating the regulator, mechanism & guides? Are all the guides/rollers in good shape?
I solved something similar once with a little slickem.

I will eventually have to replace the drivers side one also. The gears on the sprocket are worn from years of use It rolls up nice and smooth but occassionally It will only roll down 2 inches or so and get stuck. next time i drive it and it works fine so is Off and on issue, Today it rolled down nice and smooth when I took her for a drive to the local DQ. Was nice and sunny and only roasted the tires once.  :burnout:

I tried to grease them with no luck.

Where is the best place to buy them
and which brand will fit best?

On my driver's side regulator, the teeth were worn badly in only a two inch span. I built up the area with the mig and then re-filed the teeth.
