Putting Grease in bulkhead Female Connectors.. 1970 Challenger
« on: February 03, 2013 - 03:10:06 PM »
hello--

I am about to put in a new M&H main harness.
I was always told to pack grease into the bulkhead connectors to create a tight seal  etc..

What type of grease should I use?
Should I put it into the female side or slop it into the male connectors?

Also - would it hurt anything to grease the connections for the turn signal and ignition switch (white plastic parts) at the column?

Thanks in advance.
Bill

Dielectric grease is what you want.  put it in the female side. Use it anywhere that may get corrosion
or moisture.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

It's used on pretty much any electrical connectors so you can probably get it from any electrical supply place/home center/or automotive shop.  I checked and autozone lists several different products on their website.

White lithium grease. Available everywhere but get some in a squeeze tube. Spray can is too messy. I use it on all my connections with no issues anywhere.

I used dielectric grease in my connectors too. Figured it can only help promote a consistent connection.
Can buy it at any electrical supply or the electric dept at home depot.
Comes in a squeeze tube

silicone grease is a dielectric and can be bought at most parts stores...it seals moisture out of the connector so the contacts don't corrode

I understand it should not be used where contact pressure is very low as in some weatherpack style connectors but I have used it with no problem on bulkhead units in the past
