Hemi Valve Cover Breather - 1 or 2 Hose Outlets?
« on: April 03, 2013 - 12:12:01 AM »

Thanks to the input of you guys, I now know what I need for my EFI fuel setup with ECS. Just not sure if I should order a single or double hose outlet valve cover/crankcase breather for my Hemi. I had a look at my EFI throttle body and it has 3 plugged up provisions/bungs but I am not sure what they are for. Reference photo below not mine, but same model.

Is ONE of them for a hose from the valve cover breather? If so, which one? What are the other 2 smaller ones for (1 and 3)? I'm having a pro shop dial this car in including the EFI setup, wiring, etc so that's ok, just doing research and need to know because need to buy a breather and I know I require AT LEAST 1 line (for going down to the ECS) but do I need another hose going to the throttle body?

Cheers!

the breather connects to the air cleaner so the engine will draw in clean air , the second smaller line would connect to the fuel tank / vent system , the 3 ports on the Throttle body will be manifold vacuum sources , the lager one can be used for PCV typically or powerbrakes , smaller ones can be used for vacuum gauge , cruise cont , etc . If you connected any of the 3 ports on the T body to thebreather you would just have an open vacuum leak .

Excellent, thanks mate! I can't seem to find any breather caps with the smaller (ECS style hose) only. They either come with the large air cleaner vent and a small one or none at all. Any ideas? I was thinking I could just use another PVC valve (like on the drivers side) to run down to the ECS system and nothing else? :dunno:

you could just put a rubber cap over the larger port , I wonder if that would cause too much suction in the smaller tube & draw in fuel ???
there is a filter mesh inside the cap so you could just leave the larger port open

Thanks CP, not too sure what to do now haha. Could I just remove the line down to the ECS and vent the air to air by using a push in style air cleaner with no hose outlets? Is that safe/OK to do? (also in terms of the ECS side)?

Just a quick question CP, do the oil caps below (found on pre 1969 Hemis) work just like air filters?
If so, I might get one of those and just powder coat it black to blend in.

Thanks CP. I have decided to get an air filter, to me, on paper, it just HAS to vent better than those original ones. After some research, I am going to buy a K&N Filter (Part # 62-1170). Looks nice, chrome top, small (3" dia x 2" high) and a 1" opening for the hole size.
