us car tool stiffening sheet metal gauge?
« on: January 28, 2016 - 10:27:30 AM »
Anyone have a set of the us car tool fender and radiator support stiffening braces they could measure the gauge on? I only have a fluxcore welder and wondering if it is too thin and will blow through..

I don't have either, however I did install the US Tool sub frame connectors and if I recall, they were like 1/16 or so. I used 1/16 on my under fender braces and lower radiator brace.

If I recall, the fender supports were fairly stout, I'd say a little thicker than 1/16" but I never measured them. You could e-mail Chris at the shop to find out. Not sure about the radiator support.

You would really have to try to blow through them. They are much thicker than the e-body metal.

I've got the fender supports and they are thicker than the OEM metal - 1/8" maybe?  I'll measure them later tonight if no one responds.  You'll be OK with flux core.

Awesome, great info guys thanks! When I was welding some holes in the engine bay, it was really easy to blow through if I wasn't careful.

I've got both in my car and they're near if not at, 1/8" thick- stout! If you blow through them, you've got a welding problem! LOL

I measured the radiator support and the fender braces today, they are exactly 2,7mm thick, thats 0,10629921" (decimal inches) according to my metric to  inches converter, but I dont know how much that is in fractions of inches. (1/8" is 0.125, so its less than that).

As a SWAG, I'd say somewhere around 7/64's". Thick for sheet metal any way you look at it.
