Radiator Overflow
« on: May 06, 2013 - 02:51:09 PM »
I don't have a radiator overflow on my 73 340.  Is this actually stock?  I saw a mention that they are only on 74.  If this is true, why didn't earlier years have them?  Do I really need to have one???  What happens if I don't install one?  Thanks.

73-74 only. You don't have to have one but it sure is nice not puking excess overflow onto the ground. Some
people install aftermarket pieces that look a bit nicer. I've been looking for the overflow bracket for a while now with no luck.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Yeah, that's true... I guess they didn't care as much for the environment back then but now it's big deal.  I'll end up adding one but sucks 1) it's not stock (but at least it'll look stock if it was available in 73) and 2) it's one more thing I have to add to my expense list.  I see that Year One and Classic Industries offer the bottle and mounting bracket.  They are also on eBay.

On my '71 vert I plumbed the overflow to the washer tank with a fitting on the bottom. Works great. Not like you going to use the windshield washer any time.

Got a pic? Thought I'd try something like this too, but the outlet nipple on the radiator faces the wrong direction?

Not available in 73. 74 only...

If you don't use one, you just have to keep the level in the rad down an inch or so.
