valve adjustment procedure

tried out a new "to me" adjustment procedure today on my solid roller valve train..in the past i always used the tried and true mopar valve lash chart,,,top dead ctr, now adjust valve x,y, rotate 90 degrees,now adjust x,y, and so on,,what a PITA...used that system for the last 4 cars...

today after some research i used the EOIC method..it was like a vacation!no messing around with with breaker bars trying to get the dampner marks spot on,,trying to keep track of where i was by marking the valves adjusted..bouncing around from side to side of the car..telling the wife and the cat to not bother me right now so i dont mess this up!

pulled one valve cover at a time and went down the line rotating the motor by remote push button..DONE!

E O =exhaust open barely,adj intake. rotate until..
I C=intake closing. after the intake reaches full lift and is 2/3 the way up to close,adjust exhaust .

no timing marks to line up,no breaker bars to bust your knuckles on the fan blades,no bouncing around.its a tight lash cam so i subtracted 4 thousands from the 16 rec and set them at 12...iron block aluminum heads...   :2thumbs:

wow, that is slick!! What a time saver!!
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

the best part is if u miss your lift point just spin it again with the remote starter button and try again,,i think i only had to do that once in the beginning..your not looking 4 top dead center...crank turns twice,,cam turns once...

have to get it done,,,,plan on driving it to mopar alley ohlone college,capitola car show next. etc.etc.

just ran it 4 the 1st time after valve adjustment,iron block/aluminum heads.at 12 thousands,down from the intial cold setting of 16 that the cam calls 4..but that called 4 setting was a hot setting.info from crane on the above link.

there is a noticeable idle diff,,more idle lope and low speed perf cam sound..i wonder what that translates to in valve lift?the same in thousands?this motor has REALLY come alive! lunati 60333 solid roller,stock grind,,no hint of ping at all with 10.1 compression eddy heads on calif 91 octane,,20 degrees intial...   :2thumbs:
