k frame
« on: March 18, 2005 - 10:20:41 AM »
I'm new to mopars,  I have a few Amc's AMX,  Javelin,  I just got my hands on a   70 convt No motor/xmiss.,  VIN wise it's a 6cyl.  How can I tell if it's a 6 or 8 k frame?  Also is this car worth more with a 6 or 8?   I still have to locate an engine/ trans.  What's a good combination for this challenger?  Thanks  Glenn

Wlecome Glenn
Basically the best bang for the buck is to put a Hemi in it , the value will increase the most this way
, just because the car is rare doesn`t mean anyone will want to pay for it , I feel the car is worth more with a V8 over the original 6 to most buyers if you are planning to sell it . If you don`t plan to sell do what makes you happy , convertable E bodys are not dropping in value anyway
I guess I need a pic of the K frames to show the difference , the 6 K frame has a different mont pad on each side while the V8 has the same mount on both sides except that the steeering box mount is incorperated on the left side

Thanks Chryco Psycho for the info,  enclosed is a few picts of the k frame,  etc.  I'm I correct thinking its a 6 k frame.  Would k frames from other models and years interchange?   Glenn

Welcome to c-c.com Brotoe.  I would say to gfo with an 8 as well.  Especially if the original motor is gone.  Here are your pictures resized so you can see the entire picture in the screen.  I noticed the 3 piece trunk/quarter mouldings are missing in the pivture you posted.  Do you have those mouldings?  They are very difficult to find.

I can`t see the left mount clearly enough but it really looks like the there is no horizontal hole to bolt the V8 mount to it so I`m thinking it is a 6 K frame , Schumakers has mounts to bolt in a v8 on the 6 k frame .  www.engine-swaps.com

Thanks for the responses!  Aprilspink the car is full of parts "thrown" in it there are new wheel wells..some other wheel well small pieces? I have to remove the parts and take inventory. Hopfully those chrome pieces are there.  The previous owner of this house was a custom body man. It seems he welded/strenghtened the frame. Most of the parts stored inside the car are labled. I bought this house over a year ago and the chally was in the garage the former owner was going to pick up the car on 4 different ocassions, He is about 1000 miles away. To make a long stoy short I had a lien put on the car and eventually got a d.m.v. registration in my name. Now I can invest in the car.  But I have to finish up a 73 amc amx,  which will be the funds for the chally.     I'm sure I will be very active  posting "help me" inquireries on this site.    Thanks  Glenn
