specs on 833 OD trans
« on: March 15, 2005 - 03:29:14 PM »
I found an 833 OD trans and now I'm looking for a bell housing. It looks and correct me if I'm wrong that the bearing retainer plate is 5 1/4 " diameter which pretty much eliminates use of the 70 513 bellhousing? Do you have to use the truck bellhousing?

Its a 23 spline input shaft and I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to find a clutch for that set up. Of course I'd have to get a Hemi 8 bolt flywheel. There isn't any trouble using the truck bellhousing is there on the E-body?

It looks like most of the bellhousing used in these cars had a 4 5/8" opening? Is that correct?

Has anybody had any experience with the ability of that 833 OD to handle a 525 horse 540 foot pounds Hemi engine? This beast is a torque monster...... Breat too hard and it smokes the tires...

I ran a 833 OD in my Duster for years , it ran 11.7 1/4s & pulled the front wheels 2-3' off the ground launching , they seem to handle the power ok
the common 70 trannys used thje 4.80 front brg retainers , the front retainer on the OD can be  machined down to 4.80 easily so you can use a normal behousing, & the 23 spline cltuches are common

OK honestly, how sick of "that thing got a Hemi" are you.

Serious - that is a mean machine
And if I had a Hemi, I'd never tire thinking about it.

  You guys are too funny....

After I took the picture down by the water, I was driving past a couple about 45 years old and the man was just staring at the car. After I passed by he turned around real fast and pointed the car out to his wife, rather excitedly!

I just bought a 71 Cuda... Its on its way and should be here next week... here's a couple pics... I think April needs to get me some of those little houses with attached garages

Just pull the retainer off and take it to a machine shop Chryco?  Also the reverse stud got broken off in shipping. Are they pretty easy to replace and do you have to disassemble the trans?

the reverse stud is basically the 1st part installed in the tranny so it has to come completely aprt , Passon can help with a new part at least

just remove the 4 1/2 bolts & remove the retainer & have it machined down to 4.80
