Flip top gas cap "gas cap"
« on: April 26, 2013 - 05:26:50 PM »
I installed a flip top gas cap and trim ring, but then I realized there should be another cap to seal the tube.  Is there a Stant # that works or??

Smelling gas doesn't appeal to me...

It looks like http://www.jimsautoparts.com/fuelpart.htm has it under part #FW-671. Apparently I need to order one since I just ordered a flip cap myself, but it came with no seal (at least under the listing).

That does not substitute for a gas cap....its a seal for the OE style locking cap as I understand it.

There are several variations, yours the '71 is the hardest as there are multiple possibilities so I've read.
Hopefully a '71 owner will chime in with some good info.

Thanks for the Jim's link.  Yes, I've heard their bad wrap, too.

But thankfully that gave me some part numbers to google.  So I found this thread: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=28523.0

So now I just need to find these.  I am we'll on my way now!  Thanks guys!

Sorry for the questionable link there. I don't know much about these e-bodies yet. My expertise lies in other areas. Just figured it may help you out on some part numbers to find. Looks like I need to find those same parts too because I just bought a flip top cap and since mine is a 71 likely isn't everything I'll need.

Good luck bud.
