how to fix a striped thread?

I have a couple of stripped threads where the convertible top hold down brackets are. They are welded into the header and can't be changed out. The bolts that screw into them are about 1" long 8/32". Any ideas how to fix this?

I am by no means an expert but I would think a rivnut would work. However I'm not sure I have read on these boards of anyone that has used rivnuts on there ebodys, I have a few places in my cuda that are stripped and I am replacing them with rivnuts because they will never been seen and work really well.

you could try tapping out to 10-32 thread , or use a timesert or helicoil

If you are going into sheetmetal and complete originality is not an issue then a nutsert works great.
This is the same type of nut used to hold a side view mirror on. If going into a solid object, then like Neil said, a time sert or helicoil.

There already is a nutsert from factory in the header. There is no access from the back since the header is sealed all around. If I was to drill out to the next size and tap, I think it will drill out the existing nutsert and then there is no way to attach the hold down.

Just looked up rivnut and think if I drill out the existing nutsert then a rivnut will work great.
