Front Suspension Assembly - New question
« on: May 03, 2013 - 08:18:57 AM »
I am finaly about to re assemble my front suspension (74 Cuda).

I got all my parts back from my painter and he painted all the holes in the upper and lower control arms (uper ball joint holes, bushing holes etc.)

I am assuming I should clean the paint out of these spots as much as possible before reassembly????

SO any other tips or trick on the reassembley.

I have a FSM.

I am using poly bushings and the moog offset uppers. On the LCA bushing, do I install these dry in to the LCA and lube the inside where the pin is inserted or do I lube both sides of the bushing?

Thansk for any help.

Jason

Yes you want to remove the paint in the holes for bushings & ball joints , most bolot holes will be fine
I lubed everything for the lower control arms pivot bushings . I also used Antisieze on every bolt & bolt hole  so upper control arm bolts cannot sieze inside the bushings , helps on any threads too .
I started out setting the upper control arms with max caster adjustment so the front of the controlo arm is as far outward as possible & the rear inward . Make sure the lower control arms are dropped as far as possible before sliding in the T bars , I usually slide the bars in before connecting the lower ball joint to the spindle with the 2 large bolts .

Thanks Neil.

Ok so I finaly got the pass side together.  Its not all torqued yet...but its together.

I put the T-bar in the LCA at full drop...I had to move the bar up a little bit to get the T-Bar in, as a result ther is a bit of a space between the T-bar adjuster and the adjuster arm.

I am running 1 inch Just susspension T-bars.

Is this OK?????

Here is a pic of the "free play" in the LCA.

Looks right to me too , the LCA IS down & the lever is down as well , if you have extra space no problem .
Both the upper & lower control arm bumpers are off , coul dmake it tough to install uppers

Thanks guys.

Yep no bumpers yet...I figure the uppers will slip in once I have it at ride height.

Brad, the spindles are actually painted with Duplicolor Stainless steel paint.  I think the turned out preety good.  We will see how the stand up.

do you have a diagram of how everything goes together? I'm just about to put mine back in
