Header Gaskets?
« on: May 13, 2013 - 12:41:38 PM »
Looking for recommendations on header gaskets.  I have a SB with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and TTI headers.  I've read lots of reviews and opinions on gaskets.  Remflex makes gaskets specific for Edelbrock's Chrysler SB Performer RPM heads, AND also makes gaskets specific for TTI's Chrysler SB headers.  When choosing header gaskets, is it better to match to the heads, or the headers?  Does it really matter?  I know TTI sells gaskets for their headers.  Any opinions on best gaskets?  I've read positive reviews on TTI, Remflex, Percy's, Fel-Pro, etc.  Thanks.

The reason most headers leak is the flanges are to thin & they warp leaving an uneven surface between the header & heads , TTI do not have this problem , the flanges are well enoguh made & thick ebnough they do not warp so I have really never had a problem with gaskets & TTIs , the most durable I have found are the Copper gaskets & the heads & heeaders should be a close match , the header is typically more critical as the head surface is flat around the port , the headers will have a raised lip around the port the the gasket has to cover the raised lip .

Felpros are good!
Maybe with longer header bolts from ARP (I've used them), you can double
up on the gasket, if the header flange is warped.

I've always used my Dremel to remove some the gasket material so the exhaust ports
match the header tubes. I would think the top priority would be to keep the head exhaust
ports uncovered! You can line the gasket up over the exhaust ports, matching the bolt holes,
and see what parts of the gasket need trimming to expose all of the exhaust ports.
