pinion bearings
« on: May 11, 2013 - 10:29:55 AM »
I have a 742 case with 2.94 gears that I want to replace the bearings on. If I change the pinion bearings do I have to check or reset the pinion depth or can I reuse the spacers and install it?

While the brgs "should" be exacttly the same they won't be , you need to recheck the depth unfortunatly

Thanks Chryco. I know how to set the carrier bearings for preload and backlash but I have never done the pinion before and I think you need a special arbour tool to set it. Maybe I'll send it to a shop and have it done.

ypu can try it with the same shims & check the pattern on the gears , it may work out OK , if not have the pinion depth corrected
