rebuild my dana 60. what do I need?
« on: May 29, 2013 - 11:12:47 AM »
when I got my car ,there was a rather unhealthy noise coming from the rear. Our local tractor pulling diff guru adviced to first make sure all other driveline components were in good shape before tearing down the dana. Well, with everything in good shape it still makes that noise... My guess is the inner pinion bearing is toast since it makes noise when accelerating and it`s (almost) gone when decelerating.
My colleague is kind enough to help out and he is an excellent mechanic, but I will have to order parts and such. So my question is what do I have and what do I need?  I know it`s a 68/69 B-body rear with 4.10 gears but that`s it.   Also, do I need any special tools to do this right?

I have no rebuilding words of wisdom but just thought I'd throw this out there....
If you have the budget when your rebuilding yours I'd look into the tru trac  set up. I have it in my Dana and am REALLY impressed with how it performs! :clapping:

Thanks Brad, but I`m thinking bearings here. I have no reason to assume the gears and sure grip need to be replaced. Teeth look fine and print was good. Sound like a worn bearing and I can see metal flake in the oil.
