door gap
« on: March 18, 2005 - 07:42:12 PM »
:???:well I had the doors hung on the car looking good. had about a 1/4 in gap between the door & quarter, so desided to but the door jam seals on to see how they fit , now the door seals hit each other, door won't close.
how much gap should there be between the door & quarter?
any help would be super
Thanks

Hi,
Do you have your front and rear interior panels on?
I found if the gap is not right the panels will catch each other.
A quarter inch should be lots.
Are the seals new, new seals are stiffer.

Hey,no panels on the car .just a shell I can push the door closed ,just dont want any surprises after it gets paint.
the 1/4 in gap is what the bottom of the door to rocker gap is. Anyone else have a opinion or thoughts?
Thanks

Are you talking about the rubber at the top of the quarter and door? If so I had the same problem. The seal on the quarter was bent slightly and once I straightened it, it fit correctly. I just measured my car and the gap is 1/4" exactly so you should be fine. Also make sure the gap is the same at the top and bottom of the door.

Ok ,Thanks 73340 it fits much better now, I took the rudder seal that goes on the quarter put it in the vise and squeeze it tight.Must of been bent
Put it back on the car takes way less pressure to close now, now on to the next side

I'm sorry I have weird mind, but from that picture it looks like the car is held up by a bar stool.  Glad you solved the problem 72sunroof.

You guy are so funny about the  stool, it is holding up the car from turning, my design was a little flawed about holding the car when one side weigh more, here  is another from the other side

72s,
I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the outside tube of the pivot on my rotisserie, welded a 3/8 nut over the hole and screw a 3/8 bolt thru the nut to jam against the inside tube of the pivot to hold the car from rotating. works very well.
