AAR Cuda Power Steering Pump with Cooler Installation
« on: June 03, 2013 - 12:58:24 AM »
I hope someone can give me a hand.  This is driving me nuts.

I'm finally ready to put my AAR Cuda back on the road.  I installed a rebuilt Federal power steering pump with a new reproduction cooler on the car.  After everything was tightened, I filled the pump up for the first time and let it sit overnight with the cap off.  When I came back in the morning, all the fluid had seeped out through the mounting bolt in the rear of the pump (the one where the bolt goes which holds both the cooler and bracket in place.  I've installed several pumps before, but none with a cooler.  I always bolted on the bracket and never had a problem.  Am I supposed to put some sort of sealer on the bolt because it's holding the bracket and cooler?

Please help!  I'm ready to get on the road.  Thanks in advance for your help.  David

the bolt extends through the steel body I assume , is he O ring in place inside the reservoir , is the braket preventing the bolt from tightening against the body , I wounder if it used a double bolt with threads on both ends so you could tighten the bolt & use a nut to hold the braket for the cooler in place ?

Thanks for the reply.  I agree that the bolt goes into the reservoir.  Although I just purchased the pump (rebuilt)/reservoir as a unit from Year One, I assume the O ring is in place.  I guess it's possible it moved and I need to put in a new one.  I put the bolt through both the pump and cooler mounting brackets and it was tight.  Maybe someone has a picture of the back of an AAR Cuda power steering pump with the cooler so I can see if it has the double bolt you're talking about.
